The importance of myocardial perfusion has gained tremendous momentum in the cardiovascular literature. It has now been established that optimizing clinical outcomes depends not only upon restoring epicardial flow but also upon restoring normal myocardial perfusion. The site was developed to assist in the education of physicians and allied health care professionals. "How do I assess this "blush"? How is this "blush" related to outcomes like mortality? Powerpoint slides and videos are provided here to educate health care professionals in how to assess the "blush" and to educate them regarding the strong association of myocardial perfusion with clinical outcomes including mortality. Tens of millions of hits later, and many thousands of hits daily, this site has proved to be a valuable resource to medical professionals around the world. Half of the traffic comes from the US and half of the traffic comes from outside the US from countries such as Germany, Italy, France, Japan, the UK, Canada, the Netherlands, Poland, Brazil and China to name just a few. The visitorship continues to grow daily. Many new visitors come from Google, MSN or other search engines. With the dizzying pace of advances in the field of cardiology, this site has become a valuable resource for medical educators. At present, Powerpoint presentations have become the educational tool of choice for several reasons. For one, physicians are visual. They may not have the time to read lots of text as they are browsing. They would like to advance through slides at their own pace to view the material in which they are most interested. They often don't have time to listen to streaming audio. This is better accomplished in teleconferences or obviously in a live presentation. All these features have made the site popular. While trying to keep up with information pertaining to advances in knowledge, the site is not intended to promote off label use of drugs or devices. These educational slides present data to support the rationale for the use of a variety of pharmacologic agents and devices in both approved and non-approved indications. Actual prescribing information is by intent minimal or completely lacking. These slides has been prepared for scientific educational purposes, and cannot be considered an inducement to use any drug or device in non-registered indications. The site does not recommend the use of any drug or device in any manner inconsistent with that described in the full prescribing information. The homepage is busy, but over the years we have learned that people would like to be the shortest number of clicks from the material they would like to download. It is for this reason that so much is just one click away. The homepage has evolved to have fewer graphics and more hyperlink text so that it loads faster. In keeping with the spirit of the internet and freedom of information, we do not ask visitors to register. Slides can be emailed to you if you sign up for the news and slide service. We hope you enjoy using the site. We could use your help though! Would you mind returning the favor and sharing your slides with others in the spirit of what we are trying to do? Please email me your slides for consideration mgibson@theblush.org C. Michael Gibson, M.S., M.D. and Susan Marble | |||||
